Kaleider 4.6
- New Features
The most significant improvements with Kaleider 4.6 are the ability to
rotate effect elements, enhanced masking capabilities and an option to use video
devices as input for effects. Also many minor fixes and tweaks. Here
are a few details:
-
Virtual Source Image Rotation => A Virtually Rotate Source Image
slider has been added (underneath the existing Scaling Controls).
After rendering an effect, the slider can be moved to turn the source image that
the effect is based upon between 0 and 359 degrees. The mouse wheel can also
be used (unless the Scale slider has been selected). The source image
display isn't actually altered -- the rotation is just done mathematically
('virtually'). The rendered effect remains in the same orientation, but the
picture elements appear to rotate within the effect shapes. The
button will rotate
effect Tiles clockwise in 90 degree increments. A new Random
Rotation Wander pattern is also available.
-
Masking => The old Mandala option has been
expanded into a more full-featured Masking capability, which can overlay portions of the
changeable, evolving screen display with a static background, based on either a
specified Mask Shape or a Stencil image. Background areas can
be filled with either a solid color or another image. The Mandala
button has been replaced with a button. (Of course it's still
quite easy to create standard circular Mandalas just by choosing Mandala
as the Mask Shape.) A
Mask/Mandala Options screen is available to configure the characteristics
of Masking. It's possible to create custom Mask Stencil images
with the Create Mask
function. The button can be right-clicked to show a popup menu
of Masking options. The current display can be set as the Mask
Background image, and can also be used as the basis to automatically create a
Mask Stencil.
Mask actions can be captured in Scripts, and later revised via the Script Control
and Editing screen. Random Masking can be applied during
Automatic Effects, according to options set in the Automatic Effects Configuration screen.
- Video
Device Input => It's now possible to use a Video Device (webcam,
camcorder, TV tuner, etc.) to provide continuous moving input for Kaleider
effects. The button
(next to Open) can be clicked to show a popup menu of Video load
options. The pictures from a Video Device will appear in the main
Kaleider window, and effects can be performed on them just as if they were
still images. If more than one Video Device is available, a different
device can be chosen via the drop-down box.
- Reverse
Video => When using a Video File (.avi, .wmv, etc.) as input
for Kaleider effects, it can now be played backwards by pressing the
Reverse button
(the underline indicates Reverse mode is on). There is also a
Bounce button
(underlined means on) that will cause Videos to continuously play back and
forth -- when a Video reaches the end it will reverse and play backwards,
then forwards again when it hits the beginning, and so on. These options are
also available with still Image Sequences (not applicable with a Video
Device though).
- Large Effects => Any of the Effect
buttons can now be right-clicked to quickly create that Effect at the
maximum size that will fit within the source image (or the window if smaller).
The Effect outline will initially be centered within the source image.
As usual, it can then be clicked and dragged to reposition as desired. This
feature can be especially handy when using a Video File or Video
Device to provide continuous input for patterns, since those images are often
much smaller than the screen size. For example, you might right-click the
(Split Rectangle
Kaleidoscope) button to quickly split the image horizontally or vertically,
with one half reflected onto the other. In that case, it probably looks best
to have the Center option turned off. Other Effects will look
better with Center enabled.
-
Interface Scaling => The Appearance Options screen now includes an Interface
Scale option. When using a large, high-resolution monitor, the text and
buttons on Kaleider screens and controls might seem rather small and
difficult to read. The size of text, buttons and other controls can be
adjusted by switching the Interface Scale from the default Normal
to Tiny, Large or Jumbo.
