Ironically, this Kaleider Mandala Mode image was rendered from a photo of a Mandala sand painting at the Denver Art Museum.  The effect was done with a Square Pie Kaleidoscope that had been adjusted to 24 Petals.  The pie slice was oriented to 0°, which along with having a number of Petals that is divisible by 4, makes the results perfectly symmetrical.  The Mandala background was set to black in this case.  The possible variations of a single effect on a particular source image are vast -- another, with the effect shifted to a different position on the source image, is shown below.
