Phota 4.5
- New Features
Phota 4.5 provides additional functionality for designing and formatting
Phota Album Pages. The Audio and Video features have been
enhanced to possibly allow playing additional media formats. Several other
tweaks and improvements. Further details follow:
- Copy Pages => The
Copy Album Pages function has
been fixed and enhanced to allow pages to be easily copied from either the current
album or from other Phota albums. Use Copy from the Current Album
to duplicate a range of Pages to another place within the current album, or the Pages
can essentially be moved by setting the Delete Copied Pages option. With
the Copy from Different Album option, another Phota Album can be specified
from which to copy a range of Pages.
- Alter Pages => The former Reformat
Pages routine has been entirely re-written and expanded to become the Alter Pages function, which provides
options to quickly alter the descriptive information, file locations, page layouts and/or
image sizing for photos within a range of Album pages.
Use Alter Photo Descriptions to change descriptive items for photos within
the page range. Optionally, only items that are currently blank will be
replaced. The Alter File Locations to Default Directories option will
check the image file locations of each Photo within the page range, and make updates
as appropriate. When the Alter Page Layouts option is chosen, photos
on pages within the page range will be shifted between pages as needed to conform to
the new Page Layout. Additional pages will be inserted if necessary, and
any resulting empty pages will be removed. Select Alter Image Sizing to
set the specified Image Sizing method for all pages within the range.
The Image Sizing choice, combined with the Page Layout determine how
photos are positioned and sized within pages.
- Audio and Video => The Phota
Audio Player and
Video Player had previously used the
Microsoft DirectShow API to play Audio and Video files.
DirectShow used filters to render the various media codecs that Audios and
Videos are encoded with. But if the necessary filter for a codec was not
installed on the computer, the file could not be played. This might often be fixed
by downloading and installing a free codec package like K-Lite. Phota 4.5 will
first try to play Audio and Video files by using the more recent Microsoft
Media Foundation API, which can process most of the common media codecs. Then,
if for some reason a file cannot be played by the Media Foundation, the program will
automatically try to play the Audio or Video using DirectShow.
As of Phota 4.5 only 64-bit versions of the application will be available.
However, a 32-bit version of Phota 4.4 can still be downloaded for older computers.
