Several of the enhancements included with Kaleider 4.7 were prompted by customer suggestions, which are always much appreciated (special thanks to Michael Taylor).  Here is a summary of the most notable improvements:

• Improved Quality and Sharpen =>  The Kaleid Tools panel now includes a button that will re-render the current effect using a 'super-sampling' technique, often producing a smoother, less pixelated result.  (The G key is a keyboard shortcut for Improved Quality.)  The button will change to after the re-rendering has been completed.  For some effects the difference with Improved Quality will not be very noticable.  However, the improvement is fairly significant with Funnels and some 3D Mirrors, and especially when using some of the non-flat Surfaces (Orb, Abyss, Convergence, etc.).  Also, a Sharpen function can be performed by pressing the button (next to ) -- or just type the T key.

  Quality and Sharpen buttons are also available within the Upscale Window.

• Square and Diamond Pie Kaleidoscopes =>  The old Square and Diamond Slice Kaleidoscopes have been replaced with similar, but much more flexible and versatile Pie Kaleidoscopes (initiated by the bottom 2 buttons under the Kaleids label).  These effects take a slice from within a square or diamond and mirror that portion of the picture around the remainder of the shape into symmetric 'petals'.  The number of petals can be varied from 3 to 54.  The pie slice can be oriented in any direction around the center from 0 to 359 degrees.  Boxes can also be clicked to automatically align either of the slice edges directly toward the left, right, top or bottom, which will often maximize the symmetry of the resulting effect.
  

• Rotation Origin =>  When the Virtually Rotate Source Image feature was introduced with Kaleider 4.6, rotations always occurred around the center of effects.  Now, by default, rotation is performed around the same point that is used for centering when the Center option is enabled, which can vary depending on the type of effect.  A different point can be selected via the new Rotation Origin drop-down box -- there are 10 possible choices.  The centering origin can then also be altered by checking the Use for Centering option.
  

• Precision Tile Shifting =>  By default, the keyboard Left, Right, Up and Down Arrow keys are used for Previous/Next Image and Forward/Reverse Color Shifts.  When the new Use Arrow Keys for Shifting option is set, the Arrow keys will instead function as precision controls for Tile movements, shifting an effect Tile one pixel left, right, up or down with each key press.  The Use Arrow Keys for Shifting option can be found under the Tiles Menu, and can also be toggled on/off by typing the J key.  Note that there is also a Use Arrow Keys for Navigation option under the Rooms Menu -- that will take precedence while in Rooms Mode if both options are set.

• New Surfaces =>  3 new non-flat Surfaces have been added:  Convergence, Typhoon and Swirlies.  With the Convergence Surface, patterns seem to coalesce out of distant chaos into a central concretion.  A Typhoon whorls effect tiles around the image center.  As with a Typhoon, patterns are twisted by Swirlies, but into four symmetrical yet opposing vortices.  (Swirlies are not intended to emulate that despicable sort of 'swirlie' in which a bully forces your head into a toilet and then flushes.)
  

• Untiled Effects =>  Ordinarily, Kaleider effects are rendered into 'Tiles', which are then replicated seamlessly to fill the screen.  However, quite interesting results can sometimes be achieved by creating a single occurrence of an effect, while leaving the rest of the source image unchanged.  Such an object can be clicked and dragged around the screen just as tiled effects can be shifted.  For example, an untiled Spherical 3D Mirror might resemble a floating bubble as it is pulled across an image.  Funnels (the non-split ones especially) appear to tunnel into a picture.  Untiling was possible before for Mirrors, 3D Mirrors and Funnels by unchecking the Tile Kaleidoscopically options in the Mirror Options and Funnel Options screens -- no such option was available for regular Kaleidoscopes.  Now a Tile option has been added on Effect Controls, making it much more convenient to untile effects.  By the way, the Untiled sample Script can be played to see some examples.

• Large Images =>  Kaleider is now Large-Address-Aware, which means that on a 32bit XP or Vista Windows system with 4GB of memory, Kaleider can allocate up to 3GB of memory, instead of the usual 2GB limit (if the 3GB switch has been set for that computer).  Primarily, this might be important for serious graphics artists who need to create and save extremely large images.
